Educational aid to jail inmates' kin allotted

The State Government had allotted a sum of Rs. 96 lakh for the Coimbatore zone to provide educational assistance to the children of the inmates, who died in the prison, Deputy Inspector General of Police P. Govindarajan has said.

After conducting an inspection at the sub-jail here on Thursday, he said that the eligible persons should utilise the funds.

They could apply to the respective offices in Coimbatore or Chennai to receive the educational assistance.

Mr. Govindarajan further said that all the six inmates in Coimbatore zone, who appeared for the SSLC examinations this year, had emerged successful. Besides, 24 inmates were pursuing their degree programmes.

Facilities

Later, he interacted with the inmates in the prison and enquired about the quality of the food and other facilities. Senior officials were present during the inspection.
