The Earth Hour 2013 was observed from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday (March 23) at the Brookefields Mall here by environmentalists, school and college students

Earth Hour is a global event organised by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), an international non-governmental organisation working on conservation, research and restoration of the environment. Held annually towards the end of March, it encouraged households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change.

In a press note issued in Coimbatore, N.I. Jalaludeen, president of Nature Conservation Society said that a drama was also performed highlighting the need for electricity conservation. It was followed by a candlelight vigil. A few boards were also put up explaining the significance of Earth Hour. Stickers were given to those visiting the mall

Saravana Chandrasekar, secretary of Wild Wing Society, and others took part in the event.
