DYFI, SFI seek action against schools collecting exorbitant fee

The members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and Students Federation of India (SFI) jointly staged demonstration in front of the Collectorate here on Monday urging the government to check collection of exorbitant fee in the private schools in the state and press other demands.

They said that many private schools were collecting exorbitant fee from the parents in violation of the government norms and demanded the school managements to return back the same.

They demanded the schools to provide proper receipts for the money collectred and also display the school fee on the notice board prominently. The government should initiate action against the schools which did not adopt the norms in admitting students under the Right to Education Act and withdraw the permission of the schools which flouted rules. The government should fix the fee of the private schools as per the Madras High Court direction.

Their other demands included abolition of the NEET for the Tamil Nadu students, doing away with the policy of closing the government schools and immediately re-open all the government schools which have already been shut down.

N. Praveenkumar, district secretary, DYFI, Venkatesh, city secretary, DFI, Muthukumaran, district president of the SFI, and others spoke highlighting the demands.
