Sleuths from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) arrested Raja Mahendravarman (55), a junior assistant in the sub-registrar’s office at Periyanaickenpalayam, on Thursday for allegedly demanding bribe to make corrections in a certificate. It is learnt that the complainant, S. David Kumar (22), who resides at Sivanandhapuram near Ganapathy, was born in Periyanaickenpalayam in 1994. His birth certificate only had his gender and did not have other particulars that are required for applying for a passport.

He applied for corrections to be carried out in it, for which Raja Mahendravarman reportedly demanded Rs. 400 as bribe to handover the certificate to him. David preferred a complaint with Deputy Superintendent of Police of DVAC G. Murugesan, on which a trap was set on Thursday. The sleuths caught him red-handed when he accepted the chemical coated currencies from the complainant.
