For the third working day on Tuesday, the Coimbatore Corporation continued its drive against unauthorised buildings in the city. The move comes in the wake of Thursday’s fire accident at a commercial complex in the city that killed four persons and injured a few others.
Officials from the Town Planning section of the Corporation along with those from the Local Planning Authority sealed nine buildings across the city.
The officials began with sealing the first building in Argus Nagar, where the builder had constructed 13,000 sq.ft. more than the permitted level. In the second building opposite a private hospital near the airport, the builder had constructed 18,000 sq.ft. more than what the authorities had permitted.
In the third building in Goldwyns, the builder had constructed 11,000 sq.ft. more than what the authorities had permitted for residential and commercial purpose.
In the fourth building, also in Goldwyns, the officials found that the builder had constructed 49,980 sq.ft., all of which was in violation of rules.
The fifth building that the officials sealed was in Ramanathapuram, on Trichy Road, where 7,500 sq.ft. was in excess of the permitted level.
In the sixth building in R.S. Puram, the builder had constructed cellar, ground floor, first floor, second floor and third floor, of which the cellar was not part of the approved plan. Plus the builder had not provided the necessary setback area.
In the seventh building the officials sealed, the builder had not provided setback area and had constructed more than what was in the approved plan. The eighth building was no different. It was on Mecricar Road, R.S. Puram.
The ninth building on West Sambandam Road, R.S. Puram, the builder had not provided the necessary setback area and the building was without permission, the officials said.
With the Tuesday’s lock and seal operation, the Corporation officials have thus far sealed 36 buildings.
