The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) on Thursday conducted a drive against stray cattle menace on the roads and impounded 40 goats from the Coimbatore Corporation's South Zone area.


Following complaints about stray cattle obstructing traffic and endangering the safety of road users, District Collector, P. Umanath and Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural District, N. Kannan ordered a drive against stray cattle.

Corporation Commissioner, Anshul Mishra provided trucks and human resource for impounding the stray cattle.

Regional Joint Director of Animal Husbandry, A. Thiyagavijayan ordered the drive to be carried out.

SPCA Inspectors, J. Fredrick Vimalan and R. Balakrishnan raided several places such as Aatuppalam, Kempatty Colony, Ukkadam, Podanur and Nanjundarapuram, impounded 40 goats and brought the animals to the cattle yard at South Taluk office compound.

Cases have been registered against the owners of the cattle under sections 11 (1) (h) and (i) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the cattle would be handed over after levying compounding fee for the cattle.
