The police on Tuesday arrested D. Kandaswamy, 60, from Uppatty in Pandalur here on the charge of selling various home-made drugs to heal even cancer.

A team of Health Department officials led by N. Raghubabu, Joint Director of Health Services, found that Kandaswamy was not a registered medical practitioner of Siddha, or Ayurveda. They were checking licenses of medical practitioners in Gudalur and Pandalur. They searched his home, and found that he was selling home-made concoctions for various diseases.

The team alerted the police. Kandaswamy was targeting tribal people in the region to sell these drugs.

The police registered a case against Kandaswamy under section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) read with Section 15 (3) of the Indian Medical Council Act of 1956.
