Members of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam staged a protest on Tuesday in the city and rural areas of the district to highlight the power situation in the State. According to sources, DMK men staged protests at 286 places in the city, rural, panchayat union, and town panchayat areas.

In Kalapatti Naal Road junction, DMK men led by former Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy, former Deputy Mayor N. Karthik, a few former councillors raised slogans. In Gandhipuram, members of the urban unit of the party staged a protest. Urban District Secretary M. Veeragopal, former Union Minister M. Kanappan, former Member of Parliament R. Mohan and a few former MLAs also participated.

In front of the combined court complex in the city, members of the legal wing of the party staged a protest. Likewise, in Periyanaickenpalayam, Kavundampalayam, Thudiyalur, Narasimhanaickenpalayam, Thondamuthur, Pollachi, Mettupalayam and other areas the party men spoke about the power crisis.

They said that despite repeated assurances, the AIADMK government had not been able to improve the power situation. It had made only promises.

The Chief Minister said that by August this year the power situation would improve. But it did not.

Industries were affected. And so was agriculture. Production had dropped and people’s income had come down. Things would be far better if the present government had implemented the schemes the DMK government had announced, they added.
