Pattali Makkal Katchi’s chief minister nominee Anbumani Ramadoss accused the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam of shifting its stance towards prohibition in the State.
Addressing a public meeting here on Sunday after introducing nominees from Erode, Tirupur, Coimbatore and The Nilgiris districts, he said the DMK’s Treasurer M.K. Stalin first went around the State saying that his leader’s first signature would be to usher in prohibition in the State.
Now, he was saying that the DMK, if voted to power, would introduce a law to bring in prohibition. Why should there be a new law. No new law was required. By saying so, Mr. Stalin implied that he would let private hotels, clubs run bars and that would not mean ushering in prohibition in the State.
This was nothing short of shifting stance, Mr. Anbumani said and added that the DMK and also AIADMK were not sincere about making Tamil Nadu a dry State because leaders in their parties were the ones who owned liquor companies. Plus, if they were serious about prohibition, they could have done so when they were in power.
Mr. Anbumani then threw a challenge to the chief minister aspirants of major parties for an open debate on their policies and programmes. He was ready but none of the leaders would be as they had nothing much to talk about.
The leaders of AIADMK and DMK, in particular, had nothing to showcase except making the people of Tamil Nadu beg for freebies.
Freebies
The PMK was not for freebies. It would provide quality education and healthcare.
It was the party that people were looking for as alternative, he added.
