The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Government in the State which is all set to complete its five year term in office and gearing up to face the elections had delivered more than what it had promised to the people in its election manifesto in 1996, said Union Minister for Information Technology and Communications, A. Raja on Saturday.
Mr.Raja was speaking at a function organised at Sirumugai near Mettuppalayam to lay the foundation stone for the modern electric crematorium in Sirumugai with public participation and funding, inauguration of maternity and post natal care ward building of the Primary Health Centre.
He also gave away financial assistance and aid to weavers of co-operative societies to a tune of Rs 54 lakhs. He also gave away financial aid to the children of weavers for their higher education and financial assistance for maternity care.
Mr.Raja said that normally any State Government would be able to fulfil 50 per cent of its promises and there had been cases of Governments not being able to fulfil even one promise. But, the DMK Government and Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had gone far ahead in delivering more good schemes and benefits to people than what was promised. The DMK Government in its election manifesto promises rice at Rs 1 per kg, farm loan waiver and free power for weavers but going beyond its promise the Government had given health insurance for the poor and is now gearing up for free pump sets to the farmers.
Mr.Raja said that the Health Insurance scheme has done a great deal of good to the poor, who suffer from ailments and do not have the resources to avail quality medical care. The Government had even taken care of the expenses of even professional college education of students who happen to be first time entrants to colleges.
He reminded the number of infrastructure related works that changed Coimbatore completely during the World Classical Tamil Conference and said that the Athikadavu – Avanashi Scheme that was kept pending by the other previous regimes is all set for implementation.
The Government promised to provide employment to two lakh people but in four-and-a-half years, more than four lakh employment opportunities have been provided. He also reminded the people that it was the previous regime that imposed a ban on recruitment/employment in the form of a legislation that was enacted on the floor of the house.
He said that people of Kongu region are known for their gratitude and good heartedness and he exhorted them to support the DMK to assume the seats of power once again.
Later in the day, Mr.Raja also inaugurated the newly constructed Sub-Registrar office building at Annur. The building and the land is donated by C. Selvaraj of Seshe Housing.
The land measuring 11 cents and the building with ground and first floor measuring 3,200 sq ft to accommodate the Sub-Registrar office costing nearly 30 lakhs was donated by him. The building has all facilities including documents room and a room audit wing.. The sub-registrar office was functioning in an old and dilapidated building. Deputy Inspector General of Registration K. Shankaranarayanan and District Registrar V. Karnan took part in the function.
