The sleuths of the City Crime Branch of the Coimbatore City Police on Tuesday arrested E. Anand alias Anandan on charges of cheating a businessman and his brother. Mr. Anandan, who is the son of former Avanashi MLA Elango, is a DMK functionary and is currently the district panchayat vice-chairman.

Mr.Anandan who entered into an agreement for sale of land, later refused to part with the land as well as the advance money paid towards the same.

Sri Sharma of ATT Colony preferred a complaint with the City Police Commissioner Amaresh Pujari stating that he had opted to buy two farmhouse sites measuring 15 cents each for himself and his brother and entered into an agreement with Green Home Landscape Private Limited, of which Mr. Anandan is the managing director.

The lands were offered under the company's Western Welsh project. The complainant paid Rs 20,000 for each site and had remitted Rs 2,500 per month for each site for 54 months.

As per the agreement, the complainant had to pay a monthly instalment for 59 months and had only five more months remaining for getting the sites registered in his and brother's name.

When he approached the Green Home Landscape Private Limited for paying the instalment for the 55th month, the firm refused to take the payment and the complainant was told that the remaining five instalments could be paid at the time of registration.
