PROMISING RELIEF: DMDK founder Vijayakant receiving petitions from villagers in the Tiruchengode Assembly constituency on Monday.

Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly and founder of the Desiya Murpoku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), Vijayakant, said here on Monday that his party would take efforts to solve drinking water shortage in all the 29 Assembly constituencies held by it.

Inaugurating the drinking water supply by tankers to the residents of Tiruchengode, Mr. Vijayakant said that DMDK MLAs would provide funds to ensure the distribution of water throughout summer.

Mr. Vijayakant said he was visiting constituencies to know from people how the DMDK MLAs and the government was performing and how effectively the legislators were using the funds allocated for their constituencies.

There would be no need for such special petition camps if the government and officials concerned performed their duties, he said. After receiving petitions from the people of Aandipalayam, Mr. Vijayakant promised them that he would look into their grievances.

Tiruchengode MLA and DMDK district secretary P. Sampathkumar said that more than 300 petitions were received at Tiruchengode, Mallasamudram town panchayat and Aandipalayam.

Mr. Vijayakant inspected the construction of a public toilet at Oonjapalayam and distributed aids such as iron box and sewing machine and financial relief for a family that lost its house in a fire.

The DMDK leader also inspected a public toilet at the Tiruchengode bus stand and enquired about its maintenance with people. “It is sad that the government is not able to maintain toilets and put an end to the fleecing by contractors,” he said.
