Drill conducted

Members of the National Disaster Management Authority led by Major General V.K. Datta (retd) and officials from the Nilgiris district administration, Fire and Rescue Services personnel and the Nilgiris Police conducted a drill to check the disaster management preparedness.

According to sources, the personnel involved in the exercise were grouped into four teams and were sent to The Nilgiris Collectorate, the Stone House residential area, the Government Hospital and Commercial Street to carry out the drill in different areas. The teams worked in tandem. The ‘injured’ were rushed to the hospital, where the medical team administered first aid and took them to the ward concerned for further ‘treatment’. Likewise the Highways Department displayed its preparedness in clearing road blocks and restoring roads.

The Fire and Rescue Services personnel removed the ‘injured’ and carried out other relief measures. The participating teams checked the preparedness of their men and also machinery.
