Disability welfare aid distributed

The Nilgiris district administration has disbursed disability welfare assistance to more than 11,500 persons with disabilities since 2011, a press release from the Collector’s office stated.

In the release, the administration stated that educational subsidies, financial assistance, maintenance, free bus and train passes, along with medical equipment to help persons with disabilities lead their lives had been distributed.

Since 2011, 852 children with disabilities had been helped with assistance from the administration amounting to ₹ 21.45 lakh. The assistance was provided so that the children could get access to education.

More than 3,200 persons with serious disabilities were given assistance amounting to ₹ 4.63 crore, while more than 7,300 persons with mental disabilities were assisted with ₹ 10,72 crore since 2011.

The Nilgiris District Collector, P. Sankar, recently distributed welfare assistance to persons identified at a special function.
