Develop scientific temper, students told

Students should be inquisitive, use innovation while reaching out to the poor and strive to bring in improvement in the quality of their lives besides developing a scientific temper to add value to life.

Speakers made this call on Monday at the inauguration of the three-day national level conference on Reaching the Un-reached through Science and Technology sponsored by the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA)-Kolkatta and organised by ISCA – Coimbatore.

Ramamurthy, former president ISCA – Kolkatta said that around 50 % of the country's population fell under the un-reached category and called upon the young minds to reach them and work towards their uplift through scientific innovations.

Ashok Kumar Saxena, former president, said that the event would be beneficial for students in improving their scientific temper.

Dr.Manoj Kumar Chakrabarti, president elect of 2018-19, released the souvenir. Premendu Mathur, general secretary for scientific activities of ISCA, said the century had seen more inventions than any other time in history.

S.Natarajan, professor, Solid State and Structural Chemistry Unit of Indian Institute of Sciences, Bengaluru, said it was important that experiments in every domain were visually demonstrated, so that the subjects would easily reach students particularly those coming to colleges from vernacular medium schools.
