The motorcycle industry saw 15 per cent drop this year.
The motorcycle industry expects demand to revive during the next financial year, according to Guruprasad Rajarao, deputy general manager of Bajaj Auto.
The motorcycle industry saw 15 per cent drop this year. It is very important to have the right price. About eight lakh vehicles are sold every month in the price range of Rs. 47,000 to Rs. 50,000 each. The price segment of Rs. 47,000 to Rs. 50,000 has 60 per cent share of the market. Bajaj sells about one lakh vehicles a month is this segment. “The product (Discover 125) should take us closer to the overall sales. Next year, with new economic scenario, the industry is expecting growth,” he said.
It is time to focus on new products and the thrust will come from this segment. Most of the vehicles in the motorcycle industry were earlier in the 100 cc or 125 cc segments. Then came the 150 cc and plus segment. The industry has two major segments now – one focused on mileage and the other on sporting and pleasure. Nearly 84 per cent of the market is on the mileage focused vehicles, he said.
Bajaj started production of Discover 125 on March 3 and has so far despatched 15,000 vehicles across the country, he added.
