A delegation of 30 small-scale industry owners in Coimbatore will visit Japan for a week from July 21 to know more about manufacturing technologies and new products.
President of the Coimbatore District Small Industries’ Association (Codissia) R. Ramachandran told The Hindu here on Thursday the delegation would visit three exhibitions and a couple of factories in three provinces. This was an initiative by the association so that the small-scale manufacturers here had an exposure to new manufacturing technologies, production concepts, and automation.
They would visit exhibitions related to photovoltaic products, renewable energy and sheet metal fabrication. They would also visit the manufacturing facilities of companies such as Isuzu Motors and Mazak.
Some of these manufacturers had evinced interest in sourcing components from the small-scale enterprises here. Hence, it would be an opportunity to explore business with the Japanese companies.
The association has applied to the Central Government for assistance for the visit, he said.
Though the industries were facing slowdown, this was an opportunity to know more about ways to increase efficiency, automation and energy conservation. These could be implemented when the market improved.
