Residents of LML Colony, off Avinashi Road, in Ward 55, want the Coimbatore Corporation to repair the roads at the earliest.
The civic body has recently undertaken underground drainage work in the area but has not closed the pits on the three roads that form the residential locality. Running as it does on the middle of the roads, the pipeline and the dug earth have eaten away considerable motorable space.
And the usable space is further reduced as mounds of loose earth alternate with open pits.
They also pose a threat to the road users. The three roads of LML Colony have been in such a poor state for about a month now, complains N. Malaravan, a resident.
The locality has 60 houses and a few small industries.
He says that the Corporation should immediately pour concrete atop the pipeline and then close the pits. The residents are practical in that they expect the Corporation to make the roads only motorable by closing the pits and making the surface even. They do not expect the roads to be laid afresh.
In the present circumstances, it becomes difficult for the residents to take the vehicles home for parking. For the past month or so the residents have been parking their vehicles only outside with the risk of they being stolen, laments Nagarajan, a resident.
At the time of executing the underground drainage work, the Coimbatore Corporation had also damaged water supply lines, further troubling residents, complains Thangamma, another resident.
They say they want the Coimbatore Corporation to restore the roads at the earliest so that the residents are able to take their vehicles home and have safe ride during and after rains.
Ward 55 Councillor C.N. Ranganathan says that he has taken up the issue with the Corporation and asked the officials concerned to attend to the problem at the earliest.
