Collector in-charge Kumaravel Pandian inaugurated the Deepavali special sale at the Co-optex store here on Friday.
A variety of handloom dhotis, saris, towels, bed spreads and bed sheets from different parts of the State have been stocked for sale at the Co-optex stores in the district.
The Tamil Nadu Handloom Development Corporation has fixed a target of over Rs. 2 crore for the four stores in Erode district during this season.
The Coimbatore region of Co-optex, which includes Erode district, aims to achieve a sale of Rs. 9.40 crore. During the Deepavali festival in 2009-10, the region had registered a sale of Rs. 7.55 crore, officials said.
The Vasantham showroom here achieved a turnover of Rs. 94.47 lakh during the festival season last year, while a target of Rs.1.18 crore had been fixed for the forthcoming season, they added.
A 30 per cent special rebate would be provided for all the purchases made at all the Co-optex stores.
The Corporation had also announced 5 per cent additional rebate for students and media persons.
Assistant Director of Handlooms M. Velusamy, Regional Manager S. Ramachandran, Senior Managers R. Shanmugam and K. Anbazhagan and senior officials were present.
