Yet another attempt was made on Sunday afternoon to dump debris along the Valankulam tank. But, environment activists prevented the dumping and asked the lorry driver to take back the debris.

Activist R. Mohammad Saleem, of Environment Conservation Group, said that as he was driving by Valankualm, he saw a lorry used for dumping debris on the stretch opposite the junction near the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.

He immediately intervened and also asked the people there to stop the dumping.

He said he also informed the Race Course Police but the latter said that they had no such information.

Finally, the persons dumping the waste relented and took back the waste, Mr. Saleem added.

Coimbatore Corporation had been taking steps to recycle debris dumped in the city by going for a construction and debris waste plant.
