The Coimbatore City Crime Records Bureau is giving greater impetus to upload information pertaining to crime and criminals, and incidents reported in the last 10 years, in all the 15 police station limits as part of the ongoing Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS).
Ambitious project
CCTNS is an ambitious project aimed at integrating crime information to make them available at the click of a mouse.
It will also reduce the difficulty of tedious paper work and the exercise of searching for files and papers.
Access to information on crimes and criminals instantly from anywhere is the primary objective of the project.
Ultimately, the CCTNS is expected to bring in sharing of details across the borders of districts and states on a real-time basis, without loss of valuable time.
Initially, the data pertaining to all the 15 police stations in Coimbatore City would be uploaded and then logging of details pertaining to crimes on to the computer database would be carried out.
The daily progress in the work is being closely monitored by the Crime Records Bureau and periodically, the work is being reviewed by Assistant Commissioners of the appropriate jurisdiction and Deputy Commissioners and the same is being updated for the City Police Commissioner T.P. Sundaramoorthy.
All the 15 police stations, Assistant Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and Commissioner of Police besides Crime Records Bureau would be connected through a Local Area Network.
Subsequently, the City would be connected to the State Police Headquarters through a server based at the State Crime Records Bureau at Chennai.
Finally, all the States would be hooked onto the national server of the National Crime Records Bureau at Pune.
The data being uploaded on to the system with respect to the 15 police station limits pertains to the period 2002 to 2012 wherein the First Information Reports (FIRs), Modus Operandi of crimes, Criminals' profile, thumb impression, bio-metric fingerprints, photographs, identification marks, remand reports, warrants, court details and case histories. Police stations are being provided with computers, net connectivity and a sizeable number of computer savvy cops are on the job of uploading the particulars at the fourth floor of the City Police Commissioner's office where the City Crime Records Bureau is situated.
