Twenty-two Dalit youth, who had completed B. Ed or M. Ed courses from a private college in the district during the 2012-13 academic year, petitioned District Collector G. Govindaraj on Monday to get the government assistance meant for them during the course period.

K. Arumugam, one of the petitioners, said that each of them was to get above Rs. 40,000, which was disbursed from the Adi Dravidar Welfare Department for Dalit students pursuing the B. Ed and M. Ed courses.

“Despite submitting applications in December 2012, the financial assistance did not reach us. Now, we have completed the course and almost all are yet to get a job,” he said.

The youth told reporters here that the district administration had promised to find a solution soon.

‘Implement fare stage’

The Lok Satta Party members on Monday petitioned District Collector G. Govindaraj alleging that the fare stages set by the State Government were not been followed by a majority of the public transport buses plying in Tirupur city, and its suburbs.

The party’s State organising secretary S. Eswaran said that most of the bus conductors were not allowing short distance travellers to enter buses plying between Tirupur and Coimbatore during the busy morning hours.

The party asked the Collector to look into the change in the route through which a 230 KV overhead electricity cable being pulled from Palladam to Ingur.

The cable should have passed through Ganapathipalayam and Kandakanni villages before reaching Ingur. Instead, the Tangedco was now taking steps to pull the cable through Thammarettipalayam and Sivanmalai villages affecting farmers in the area.
