Woman dies of burns

A 38-year-old-woman, admitted on August 15 to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital of burns, died on Tuesday.

Karumathampatti police said that Jothimani of Vagarayampalayam sustained burn injuries when her saree caught fire while she was cooking.

Police have registered a case and are investigating.

Two students missing

Singanallur police on Sunday registered two cases regarding the missing of two school students.

Two girl students who were studying Standard X at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Singanallur left their house on Sunday to participate in the marathon held at Nehru Stadium.

But did not return home.

Based on complaints from their father, police have registered a case and are investigating.

12 arrested for gambling

The police on Tuesday arrested 12 persons on charges of gambling.

Annur police raided Meenathal Thottam in Pottiyanpalayam and found three persons involved in gambling. Police arrested them and seized Rs. 900.

In another incident, Podanur police raided a place along the railway track near LIC Colony and arrested nine persons and seized Rs. 500.

Ganja seized

The Kattur police on Tuesday arrested V. Ravi (48) of Kovaipudur, on charges of possessing 1.2 kg ganja.

Police seized the contraband and have registered a case.

In another incident, Ukkadam police arrested Ravi (48) of Kallamedu, on charges of possessing 200 gm ganja.

Two held

Saravanampatty police on Tuesday arrested two persons, on charges of stealing mobile phones from a petrol bunk in Ganapathy, on Sathyamangalam Road.

Police said that M. Vijayakumar (26) and K. Karthick (24), both from Puliyakulam entered the petrol bunk and stole two cell phones worth Rs. 7,700.

The employees caught him red-handed and recovered the cell phones.
