Special teams of the Coimbatore City Police on Wednesday late night arrested a hair dresser cum rag picker Kannan (20) resolving the mysterious murder of a watchman Nagaraj (80) who was found dead in front of a commercial complex along the Brooke Bond Road on May 23.

It may be recalled that Nagaraj hailing from the nearby Kamarajapuram was found lying dead with the head smashed with a stone in front of the shops on Brooke Bond Road. Nagaraj used to work as night watchman for these shops. The case remained unresolved for want of clue or evidence.

Late on Wednesday night, when the police were patrolling the Avanashi Road flyover area, they spotted the accused in an altercation with another person. He was picked up on suspicion and inquiries revealed that he was the one who murdered Nagaraj.

Probe on:

Perur Police are probing into an alleged abduction of Manikandan (35) of Perur, who was later reportedly released after robbing him of his jewellery and cash.

It is learnt that Manikandan had taken a loan from the financier and found it difficult to repay the loan on time and had asked for time, this led to animosity. According to police, Manikandan preferred a complaint with the police stating that a local financier Chandrakumar (31) had abducted him with the help of six persons on July 6. He added that he was confined in a house in a farm in Chinna Thadagam, wherein he was assaulted besides taking away cash Rs 14,000 and three-and-a-half sovereign gold chain on his person. The abductors also forcibly took signatures on white papers.

Police picked up Chandra Kumar while the hunt is on for the remaining six.
