Crescent Castle MHSS, Ooty, corners glory

Crescent Castle Matric Higher Secondary School, Ooty, cornered glory in the 2014 Plus Two examinations, the results of which were announced on Friday.

R. Mohammed Essa, a student of the school, topped the district with 1186 marks. He was followed by Rahul Raj of the Saint Thomas Matric Higher Secondary School, Ayyankolli, and M.Vinith Kumar of the Stanes Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Coonoor, with 1173 marks and S.Varshini of the Stanes Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School with 1165 marks.

Stating, “I am glad I lived up to the expectations of my alma mater

and my parents”, Mohammed Essa son of hotelier Mohammed Rafiq told The Hindu that he had been driven by a fierce desire to top the district as he could only occupy the third slot in tenth standard examinations. He aims to become a cardiologist.

School Correspondent G.Umar Farook said that with dedication and team

effort schools can help their students raise their level of performance.

While Rahul Raj could not be contacted as he had gone to Coimbatore for college admission, Vinith Kumar son of a building contractor Mahendran said that his aim was to become a scientist. Varshini, daughter of a government official Subramani said that she wants to do medicine.

The Nilgiris Collector P.Sankar said that the students should strive to come up in life. He added that the pass percentage was 86.15 as against 84.05 last year. Out of 8,189 students from 71 schools who had appeared for the exams 7,055 had got through.

The top three rankers among the Government Higher Secondary Schools were: B.R. Sophia of GHSS, Manjoor, with 1,158 marks, R.Gowtham of GHSS, Thuneri (1,146) and K.R. Anju GHSS, Ambalamoola (1,141).

The schools that scored centum were Crescent Castle MHSS, Ooty; Sacred Heart MHSS, Kayyunni; Government HSS, Kannerimandhanai; Government HSS, Thuneri; Cordite Factory HSS, Aruvankadu; GRG HSS, Vazhaithottam; Saint Hilda’s Girls HSS, Ooty; Nilgiri Matriculation HSS, Ooty and Saint Joseph’s AIGHSS, Coonoor.
