The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has sought the transfer of the Inspector at the Udumalpet All-Women Police Station, alleging that the police officer had dealt rudely with a functionary of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA).

Appealing for the transfer in a petition to Superintendent of Police E.S. Uma on Friday, CPI (M) members said the Inspector pushed the AIDWA functionary when she had accompanied a petitioner to the station.

“The Inspector pushed the AIDWA member and then took up a case against all the people who went with the petitioner for gathering at the police station in large numbers and preventing her from carrying out her duty,” said CPI M) district secretary K. Subramanian. “Further, the official went to an AIDWA member’s house outside the Udumalpet police station limit on Thursday midnight to inquire into the assembly at the police station, in which she (the Inspector) was the complainant”, he alleged. “How can a complainant herself inquire the case”, he asked. The Superintendent of Police told The Hindu that the accusations made in the petition would be looked into on their merit.
