The Coimbatore District Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has urged the Department of School Education to ensure effective implementation of the Right To Education Act in the coming academic year.

A delegation led by party candidate for Coimbatore Parliamentary Seat and sitting MP P.R. Natarajan presented a memorandum to Chief Educational Officer A. Gnanagowri here on Wednesday. The party said that all private schools must be made to set aside 25 per cent of total seats for students from socially and economically weaker sections. It also called for a campaign to create awareness about the RTE Act.

It also alleged that the many private schools were collecting fee in excess of the levels fixed by the Private Schools Fee Determination Committee headed by Justice S.R Singaravelu.
