CPI criticises budget

March 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Communist Party of India has criticised the Coimbatore Corporation Budget for 2015-16 saying there are hardly any schemes for the city’s development and needs. In a release, the party’s District Secretary K.M. Selvaraj has said that though the Corporation’s revenue has tripled in the past few years due to increase in tax, the civic body has not announced schemes for the people’s development.

For instance, the Budget announcement remains silent on addressing the increasing traffic problem like widening roads or constructing scheme roads. In fact, scheme road announcements made in the past – Nallampalayam-Sathyamangalam Road, Hope College-Saravanampatti Road, etc. – are yet to take off. The budget has also not come out with measures to address delay in processing property tax applications or those related to water connection. It has no announcement on housing for conservancy workers, either, Mr. Selvaraj says.
