Communist Party of India (CPI) staged a demonstration here on Wednesday condemning the increase in the prices of fuels and essential commodities. Senior leaders of the party M. Arumugam and V.S. Sundaram staged a demonstration in front of the south taluk office.

Speaking at the demonstration, Mr. Arumugam said that prices of petrol, diesel and LPG shot up during the BJP regime, leaving serious impact on the economically weaker sections and the middle class.

He said the Central Government should control the oil marketing companies from increasing the prices of fuels.

The leaders also wanted reduction in the tax imposed by the State and Central Governments on petrol and diesel to bring down the price hike. The party also blamed the State and Central Governments for steep rise in the price of essential commodities.
