A man and his wife were injured when their relative fired at them with a licensed country-made gun at Arachalur here on Friday. Arachalur Police, who registered a case, identified the injured as Nallasivam (37) and Chitra (27).
Police inquiry revealed that the couple owned 20 acres of agricultural land in that locality and had a dispute with Nallasivam’s relative Subramani (56) who had agricultural lands close by. “They have a dispute over a common path between their lands for many years. A case in this connection is pending in the court in Erode”, Inspector C. Velumani said.
Nallasivam, Chitra and other labourers were working in the field when Subramani came to the place with a gun and picked up a quarrel with the couple. “Subramani fired at the couple in which the two suffered multiple lead pellet injuries. The labourers and other villagers rushed them to a private hospital in Erode”, the Inspector added.
Police said Nallasivam was injured in the shoulder and stomach and Chitra in the left hand. After first aid, Nallasivam was referred to a private hospital in Coimbatore as the doctors here said that he should undergo a surgery to remove the pellets. Chitra, who was stated to be out of danger, was getting treated in the hospital in Erode.
A case was registered against Subramani under Sections 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 27 (Punishment for Using Arms) of the Arms Act.
He was arrested and the gun seized.
