Seeking the dismissal of Kerala Government for its stand on Mullaperiyar Dam issue, councillors and former councillors of Mettupalayam Municipality observed a day's fast outside the Mettupalayam bus stand on Wednesday.

Led by Chairman T. Sathish Kumar, the councillors said that Kerala Government is spreading a false campaign on the Dam issue with an eye on the Assembly by-election in the State.

They said that the Government is also spreading rumours about the safety of the dam only to create panic among the people. They added that the Central Government should dismiss the Kerala Government for failing to implement the Supreme Court's order to increase the storage level to 142 feet from its present 120 feet. Representatives from trade associations' also participated in the day's fasting.
