Residents of Kannan Nagar First Street, Ganapathy, staged a protest on Saturday against the Corporation for failing to clean the drain of waste.

The residents said that they had been complaining to the Corporation officials asking for waste to be cleared and construction materials be removed so that there would be a free flow of sewage. But the officials failed to response.

B. Uthayasuriyan, a resident, said that the clogged drain had resulted in reverse flow of sewage into their houses as it was a low lying area. They had no choice but to protest to draw the attention of the authorities concerned.

Former DMK councillor Meena Logu lead the protest saying that though the residents had been complaining for long the Corporation had not responded.

The sewer lines in the area were too small to convey the sewage, the quantity of which had increased due to the increase in number of houses.

Following assurances from the officials that they would clean the drain and take up construction work to widen the drain, the residents gave up protest.
