Corporation to identify open wells

August 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:23 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Corporation Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan said that the civic body would soon identify open wells within its limit and take steps to either close or increase safety measures.

If the wells were on government land or public places, the civic body would take steps to either close or rejuvenate the wells and use these wells for rain water harvesting while improving the safety.

Private lands

If they were on private lands, it would talk to the land owners to improve the safety around the well.

In a day or two he would be issuing instructions to his field staff to study the number of wells, ward-wise, and then take action.

The well in Sundakkamuthur, where a boy fell, is in Ward 89 in Coimbatore Corporation limits.
