Corporation throws open door for citizen participation in Smart Cities programme

It has asked civic body to submit a report on action taken on issues raised.

Coimbatore Corporation has invited the city’s residents to get involved in the Smart Cities project by participating in a competition to redesign a few parts of the city.

Deadline

A release from the civic body said that the competition was open till July 25.

There were three broad areas where the citizens could participate – in designing roads, junctions and parks in chosen areas.

The release said that the places identified under the ‘area based development’ component of the Smart Cities project were D.B. Road, all junctions between Cowley Brown Road and Gandhi Park Road and Gandhi Park.

Residents interested could submit designs and action plans detailing how they would like to re-design the aforementioned areas.

“The participants will have to design and give the desirable situation (target area), said the web page the civic body had created.

Committee

An expert committee the Corporation would select the winners – the first prize winner would get Rs. 50,000, the second prize winner Rs. 20,000 and the third prize winner Rs. 10,000.

And, the competition was open to students, teachers, architects, urban planners and people from all walks of life.
