The health department of the Coimbatore Corporation removed 46 persons who were seeking alms on Avanashi Road and Tiruchi Road on Friday as part of a drive to rid the roads and other public places of the city of these people. The drive was carried out in association with the City Police and Don Bosco Anbu Illam.

Persons seeking alms at traffic signals inconvenienced vehicle users. They also occupied pavements and bus shelters.

Assistant City Health Officer P. Aruna said that these persons were taken to a night shelter the Corporation opened a few years ago on Arokiasamy Road at R.S. Puram in the city. The drive would continue across the city, she said.
