July 24, 2011 01:51 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 01:31 am IST - COIMBATORE:

The Coimbatore Corporation has been asked to form nine committees to work on various subjects that are necessary for the merger of local bodies into the civic body.

Topics

According to sources, each committee will work on a topic such as solid waste management, street lights, water supply, taxation, administration procedure, information technology-enabled services, underground drainage, other infrastructure facilities, etc.

The committee will comprise Corporation staff, particularly engineers, who will study the existing system at the local bodies and what is needed for their integration with the Corporation.

Study

The committee will carry out the study in Kurichi, Kuniamuthur and Kavundampalayam Municipalities, Saravanampatti, Kalapatti, Vadavalli, Veerakeralam, Thudiyalur, Vellakinaru, Chinna Vedampatti Town Panchayats and Vilankurichi Panchayat – the local bodies that will merge with the Corporation.

The sources said the committee would study every finer aspect so that the needs were properly assessed. It would even go into the forms to be printed post-merger. Vilankurichi Panchayat would no longer be Vilankurichi after merger, it ought to be Corporation.

This was an example of the nature of work to be carried out.

The aim, the sources said, was to ensure smooth transition from one system to another so that the services that were expected of the expanded Corporation would be available from day one.

The committees had been asked to submit their reports before August 10 for perusal. It would then be forwarded to the State Government.
