Motorists and passersby noticed the car running berserk knocking down vehicles and intercepted it.
In a case of drunk driving, R. Saravanakumar (24), a building contractor and son of a special sub-inspector drove a car in a rash manner and left three persons injured on Kamaraj Road near Circuit House on Thursday evening.
Motorists and passersby noticed the car running berserk knocking down vehicles and intercepted it. They detained all the four persons in the car. Tense moments prevailed as the car literally ran amuck knocking down three two-wheeler riders. Public pointed out that the damaged car had liquor bottles and snacks inside.
Police, who arrived at the scene, seized the car and took all the four persons into custody, including the son of Special Sub-Inspector. Investigations revealed that the car was driven by Saravanakumar, who is the son of a police Special SI Ramasamy attached to Ramanathapuram police station. It is learnt that Saravanakumar living in Rathinapuri area was returning home after attending a party thrown by one of his friends to celebrate an occasion. The friend, who hosted the party, was not drunk and was identified as Prasad.
Three persons were under the influence of alcohol and the other two were identified as Kadiravan and Aswin. Traffic Investigation Wing Police have registered a case. Meanwhile, the injured motorcyclists were identified as S. Ashok Kumar (24) of Sivakasi, V. Kannan (24) of Shengottah and R. Poovendan (35) of Kurumbapalayam, near Madukkarai.
