Shopping for textile products by saving for it in monthly instalments has been made possible by Co-optex.

The “Kanavu Nanavu” scheme, launched by it in May last year, has attracted as many as 8,250 customers in Coimbatore region and nearly 100 more are expected to join this month.

Good response

An official of Co-optex told The Hindu on Tuesday that the first instalment collection for the scheme in the region was Rs. 23.15 lakh. Co-optex had 11 regional offices in the country and the response for the scheme was the highest here. It had 23 showrooms in Coimbatore region, which included seven in Kerala.

Under the scheme, customers could pay minimum Rs. 100 every month for nine months. They would get 25 per cent of the first instalment payment as free gift and 58 per cent benefit at the end of nine months. When they have completed all the instalments, they could purchase any textile product for the total amount from any Co-optex showroom in the country. One customer in Coimbatore was paying Rs. 10,000 a month, the official said.

Co-optex officials had visited colleges and other Government departments to create awareness about the scheme.

Further, Co-optex was also offering the “buy two and get one free” scheme till March 25 at all its showrooms here. The minimum purchase for this scheme was any product priced more than Rs. 200. Co-optex targeted Rs. 5 crore worth sales through this scheme.

Last year, it was offered from March 17 to April 4 and the total sales achieved were Rs. 2.25 crore in the region.

The total sales target for this financial year was Rs. 50 crore. The sales registered by the 23 showrooms last year was Rs. 21 crore, the official added.

Co-optex sourced products from different parts of the State, including Sirumugai, Arani, and Kancheepuram. It planned to organise a customer meet soon.
