Having waited in vain for long for conditions relating to basic amenities in their area to improve, the residents of Mount Pleasant in Coonoor turned up here on Monday and submitted a memorandum to Nilgiris Collector Archana Patnaik.
Lamenting that all the roads in the area were in an appalling condition, they claimed that even patch works had not been done for long. Pointing out that streetlights were not serving their purpose, they said that it was facilitating burglaries. While sewage was overflowing on some of the roads on account of improper drainage facilities, water supply is in urgent need of streamlining. Storm water drains have to be cleaned. While the existing footpaths and steps are in need of attention, new footpaths need to be laid. A proper waste management plan should be put in place.
Stray animals like dogs, goats and cows are a major source of concern to pedestrians, particularly school students. They pointed out that though several representations had been submitted over the years to authorities at various levels nothing tangible had been done so far to set right matters.
