Contractor remits seniorage for excess quarrying from Kurichi Tank

Pursuant to the notice served on Wednesday by the District Collector M. Karunagaran, the contractor held responsible for excess quarrying of gravel from the Kurichi Tank in violation of the licensing conditions complied with the notice on Thursday by remitting a sum of Rs 1,79,550 towards the seniorage charges for the sand quarried in excess.

Assessment of the quarrying that had taken place till date revealed that the total number of truck loads of gravel removed by the contractor was 2,394 loads. The contractor was issued permit slips for only 1,250 loads so far. This puts the total number of truck loads of gravel removed in excess at 1,197 loads.

Hence, the Collector directed the contractor to pay Rs 1,79,550 for the 1,197 loads of gravel removed from the tank in violation of the permission.
