People in power who amassed wealth are now out to bribe voters, founder leader of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam Vijayakant alleged on Saturday.
Campaigning for the DMDK’s Thondamuthur candidate, K. Thangavel, at Subramaniampalayam near here, Mr. Vijayakant said the money being offered now was what had been swindled.
Mr. Vijayakant said the resignation of legislator M. Kannappan for “selfish” reasons, and his decision to join the Dravdia Munnetra Kazhagam, led to the by-poll, forcing an expenditure on the State.
The Congress was a party of the rich with more than 60 of its Ministers having declared assets to the tune of over Rs.500 crore. Such people would not be aware of the problems of the poor, he said, exhorting voters to be cautious while choosing their representative.
He said the DMK and the Congress were not keen on improving the living conditions of the poor. Listing a number of instances where the DMK had opposed the Congress, Mr. Vijayakant dubbed their alliance “opportunistic.” People should know the political history of these parties and their earlier equations.
