Focus will be on improving the infrastructural facilities in the Nilgiris, if the Congress wins in the Nilgiris Lok Sabha constituency, said P. Gandhi, the Congress candidate after filing his nomination papers before the Returning Officer P. Sankar here on Wednesday.

Pointing out that congestion was a growing problem in the hill station and traffic was increasing, he said that efforts would be made to identify the causes and deal with them.

High priority would be given to the construction of a ropeway as it would help promote tourism.

Stating that an air service was a long felt need of the holiday destination, he said that a helicopter facility would not only reduce transport problems but also be of considerable help during medical emergencies.

On the farm front, efforts would be made to get Rs. 25 per kg of raw tea leaves of the small growers. Banks would be approached to give interest free loans to small and tiny farmers.

Mr. Gandhi said that the district has for long been considered a fort of the Congress.

In his affidavit, he said that his movable assets were worth Rs. 75,000 and his immovable assets were worth Rs. 25 lakh.
