Residents of Thadagam Road near Gandhi Park and those on Sundapalayam have complained that the water quality in the area continued to be poor. M.S. Velumurugan, a former Councillor and resident of the area, which comes under Ward 21, said that for the last 40-odd days the residents had been getting contaminated bore well water.

The odour was unbearable and the colour too was not what it used to be.

Around 10 days ago he had raised the issue with the ward engineer concerned and also the highest authorities in the Corporation.

He had also told the authorities that the residents had lost their patience and were about stage a protest in the area.

The authorities had then assured him that they would attend to the issue at the earliest. Mr. Velmurugan said that after more than 10 days the authorities' promise continued to be just a promise as the residents continued to get polluted water.

The residents were more dependent on borewell water because the Coimbatore Corporation supplied drinking water only once in 15 days. The rather long supply cycle and the supply of effluent-mixed groundwater had troubled the residents to no end.

Sources in the Corproation said that after the residents raised the issue, the engineer concerned had visited the locality, studied the issue and carried out the remedial measures. The residents too were happy about it.

Now that the residents had raised the issue again, the engineer concerned would visit the spot and try to address the issue at the earliest, the sources promised.
