City Police on Tuesday arrested two college students for stabbing a woman and robbing her six-sovereign gold chain and close to Rs. 500 in coins kept in a box.

According to police, Manimala (51) wife of Gunasekaran (53) of NSR Road in Sai Baba Colony was stabbed, when she was alone at home on Monday afternoon. Manimala’s son Prasanth employed in city police was part of a special team to crack crime cases.

Inquiries revealed that Dinesh (19) son of Manimala’s sister Latha used to visit her often and seek money from her.

On Monday afternoon, Dinesh, doing his second year BBA in a college in the city, had come along with his college mate S. Aravind (19), doing his B.A. in English Literature. Aravind hails from Oddanchathiram in Dindigul district. When Dinesh sought money from Manimala, she refused to pay.

Dinesh and Aravind inflicted a cut injury on the neck of Manimala using a knife and snatched her gold chain and took the money kept in a box.
