The city police on Wednesday night chased and caught four college students who were racing on Avanashi Road. They were arrested.
Scared over students racing on bike and car, the public informed the police control room following which the police patrol stationed at Peelamedu was alerted.
When the patrol team intercepted the students, they fled from the place. Immediately, all the police stations were alerted. Meanwhile, the patrol team intercepted the car at the Race Course Road - Sungam junction.
It was found that the four youth in the car were in an inebriated condition. Harshavardhan of Madukkarai was driving the car. Inquiry revealed that the other three were students of a private engineering college. A case has been registered against them under the Motor Vehicle Act and the car was seized.
Couple seeks protection
A couple of inter-caste marriage sought police protection here.
According to police, Mohankumar (23) of MGR Veedhi in Vadavalli married Shanmugapriya (22) of Kasturi Nayakkanpalayam and went straight to the station seeking protection. After a brief inquiry, the couple was sent to the Perur All Women’s Police Station for further action.
Two held
Two youth were arrested in connection with the suicide of Johnsipriya (17) on Sunday.
Selvakumar (22), power loom worker, and Shanmugavadivel, fitter, hailing from Negamam Sencheriputhur near Pollachi were arrested for allegedly abetting the girl’s suicide by self-immolation.
