District Collector Archana Patnaik said that the district would soon get five Amma Pharmacies. She was addressing the gathering at the 61 Cooperative Week Celebration on Wednesday. She said that cooperative banks and societies in Coimbatore district have deposits to the tune of Rs. 2,796.81 crore.
The Collector said that a total of 28,232 farmers of the district availed interest subsidy of Rs. 12.09 crore, in 2013. The cooperative bodies distributed crop loans totalling Rs. 171.94 crore to 23,962 farmers in 2013-14 and Rs. 101.11 crore to 12,307 farmers during the current financial year. She said that cooperative societies operate 1,104 full-time and 270 part-time ration shops in the district.
Minister for Municipal Administration S.P. Velumani and Deputy Speaker of Tamil Nadu Assembly Pollachi V. Jayaraman distributed financial assistance and benefits worth Rs. 3.04 crore to 411 beneficiaries.
They gave away shields to 49 cooperative societies and spoke on schemes and benefits extended by the State Government for benefiting farmers through cooperative societies. Coimbatore Mayor P. Rajkumar and others also spoke.
The Cooperative Week celebration that began on November 14 came to an end on Thursday. This year’s celebration with the all-India theme ‘Cooperative Model for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth’ began with the hoisting of the cooperative flag. Thematic celebrations were organised everyday.
