Micro, small and medium-scale enterprises here can tap opportunities in the renewable energy, automobile and skill development fields in Switzerland and Austria, president of Coimbatore District Small Industries Association M. Kandhaswami said here on Tuesday.

Mr. Kandhaswami was part of the trade delegation that accompanied President of India Pratibha Devisingh Patil to Switzerland and Austria from October 3 to 7.

Training

Switzerland was ready to collaborate with interested individual companies or industrial associations to offer vocational and skill training to qualified personnel.

Swiss companies were also willing to partner with Indian companies for technology transfer, provided they could also invest in the interested units.

The Indian delegation invited investment by Swiss firms in infrastructure projects here, especially on a build-operate-transfer model.

Details about small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) here were shared with the Swiss participants at the meetings, he said.

The Austrian Institute of Technology had studied the Indian transport and logistics sectors.

The institute was ready for partnership with Indian units in the electro mobility field. Local bodies in India could approach the institute for technology inputs to develop transport and logistics sectors.

About 700 units SMEs in Austria were supplying components to automobile majors and this was a potential sector for Indian units to partner with.

Environment, energy efficiency and technology related to non-conventional energy sources were other potential areas for Coimbatore companies to explore in Austria, he added.
