City Police have introduced a mobile traffic umbrella that comes fitted with a seat. These structures will be deployed at junctions where there are no fixed traffic umbrellas.
Four have been placed at various places in the city, and police have begun identifying locations where such umbrellas are needed. Police officials said they have placed orders for 15 more.
Project
Based on the instructions of the Commissioner of Police A. A. K. Viswanathan the Deputy Commissioner of Police T.K. Rajasekaran implemented this project.
Traffic Inspector (East) C. Ayyasamy said that these umbrellas have been placed on Nanjappa Road; GP Signal at 100 Feet Road; Athipalayam Pirivu, and near Fun Mall on Avanashi Road.
Among the places where these umbrellas are likely to be deployed include the intersections at Avinashi Road, near Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, Thaneer Pandal and at several areas near Tiruchi Road.
The objective of the mobile umbrella is to help the constable sit for awhile and still monitor traffic flow.
Continuously standing for hours together leads to health problems and the constables get exhausted.
Shelter
In addition, the shelter protects them from rain or shine and a seat prevents them from leaving the junction for a short break.
This ensures that the motorists never get an opportunity to jump signals or violate rules, taking advantage of the absence of constables.
The mobile traffic umbrellas are placed so that the constable can come onto the road immediately whenever there is a need.
In addition, these umbrellas can be shifted from one place to another, whenever there is a rally or a large gathering.
