Shanti Ashram will conduct Coimbatore Peace Festival 2013 here on August 6 at Kumaraguru College of Technology, in an effort to engage children and young people in peace building initiatives.

Over 1,500 students from 50 schools and colleges, and 50 leaders of youth organisations will participate in the festival that will begin at 1.30 p.m. The objectives of the festival include observing the 68 year of the bombing of Hiroshima as a day of prayer and commitment for peace, conducting ‘learning to live together’ workshop for 200 children, organising inter-generational conversation on building peace, honouring young volunteers who have led community service initiatives, and presenting thematic presentations by children and youth.

The occasion will also be used to launch Phase II of ‘Poverty Solutions’, an initiative by students in eradicating poverty.

Marabin Mainthan Muthaiah, Shankar Vanavarayar, joint correspondent of KCT, A. Gnanagowri, chief educational officer, and Minoti Aram, president of Shanti Ashram, will be the guests of honour for the occasion.
