More than 10,000 micro industries in Coimbatore hoisted black flags at the units and the owners wore black badge on Thursday protesting against long hours of power cut.

S. Ravikumar, president of Coimbatore Tirupur District Micro and Cottage Entrepreneurs’ Association, told The Hindu here on Thursday that nearly 20,000 units in the district were expected to participate in the protest organised by the association.

The members were all hit by nearly 14 hours of power cut every day for more than three weeks now. The units would have the black flags till the power cut duration was reduced to five hours a day.

Regarding constitution of a committee by the Chief Minister on Wednesday for the power issue, he said that it would take at least two weeks to know how effective the committee would be.

Power cut in Chennai should be increased to four hours a day and the energy saved in Chennai through load shedding should be distributed to the industrialised districts of the State on a priority basis.
